Who doesn't love to spend time near the sea? As luck would have it, I found myself in the seaside town of Felixstowe during a record breaking spring weekend. The locals hadn't seen weather this great in May in over forty years! As I basked in the blue sky and warm breezes, I snapped a few postcards of my wanderings around this beautiful town.

Felixstowe is located two hours east of London in Suffolk, England. This charming seaside town sits along the coast of the North Sea. Felixstowe played an important role in both world wars and has a rich military history. Today, Felixstowe is Britain's largest container port. To our delight, the day we arrived was the day of the Classic Car Rally. We looked out our hotel window to a coast lined with vintage British cars as far as the eye could see. A walk along the beach while viewing classic European cars? Yes, Please!

The following day we wanted to spend our time wandering the streets. The Seafront Gardens was first on the itinerary. The town has done a beautiful job restoring the gardens to their original early 1900's glory. During Victorian times, this seaside town was a destination for health and leisure. These lush gardens stretch along the coast for almost a kilometer and with the beach as its backdrop, what's not to love.

While exploring the gardens, be sure to make a visit to the Cliff Top Cafe for tea and cake. The views are outstanding and so is the cake!

From there, we just wandered the streets taking in the sights of this quaint town.

And if you are visiting a seaside town, the best choice for a hotel is along the coast. Don't you agree? The Fludyers Hotel has been welcoming guests since 1903. It has retained its charm but has all the modern amenities. We were blessed with a room with a view and the mild temps allowed us to keep the balcony door cracked at night to be lulled to sleep by the sea.

I can understand why Felixstowe became a respite for tired souls seeking rest, fresh air and health. It's definitely a jewel to be treasured.
