If you travel to Denver, Union Station is a must for your sightseeing agenda. Not only is it stunning eye candy, it also hosts a coffee shop, restaurants, bars, a bookstore and a hotel. I was lucky enough to be able to spend one night at this historic landmark, and I would visit again in a heartbeat. Let's take a peek inside. Shall we?
Union Station is a working public transit station where you can travel by train or bus. If you are flying into Denver, simply hop on the A Line from the airport and you will be at Union Station in about 30 minutes. It also made it super easy for me to catch my early flight. I checked out of the hotel, walked right out to the platform, purchased my ticket from a kiosk and boarded a train. The whole thing took literally 10 minutes. The cost was $8 so not only convenient but economical. As you enter the main lobby, you will instantly be stunned so just pause a minute to take in all that beauty.
There are lots of choices for restaurants and bars. Two of my favorite eateries were Mercantile and Snooze. Mercantile is both a market and restaurant. They serve many local ingredients and their menu serves seasonally inspired dishes. We stopped in several times so that we could sample different things off the menu. For lunch, we had the squash salad which was delicious. We returned later in the afternoon to sample one of their coffee flights. Feeling like a cocktail? No problem! Visit the bar for one of their signature cocktails.
Snooze is a Denver based restaurant that is the perfect spot for breakfast. It has a colorful, vibrant atmosphere. They serve a creative twist to your favorite breakfast classics.
I am a booklover so I was thrilled to see Tattered Cover bookstore located right there in the station. The main bookstore is only a block away, but it was nice to have a quick browse. I can never resist a bookstore!
If it's a good cup of joe you are looking for, then bop on over to Pigtrain Coffee Company. I can personally vouch for their baker's cinnamon muffins. Yum!
If it happens to be happy hour, stop in the Terminal Bar.
Staying over in Denver? Look no further than The Crawford Hotel. It is housed right inside the station! I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hustle and bustle of the station did not affect my stay. My room was super quiet!
Another perk to staying at the hotel is the private lounge on the second floor of the terminal that is for hotel guests only. You can still feel the energy of the terminal but it offers a quiet corner to read or sip a cocktail.
So whether you choose to stay at Union Station, use the station for getting in and out of the city from the airport or simply go for a good meal or drink, you won't be disappointed. You just need to go! And if you happen to be there when the sun goes down, make sure to check out the sign lit up at night.
